Introduction
What camera would a wedding photographer use? I have been working as a field wedding photographer since 2017 and have used various camera company equipment. I introduce the camera and lens currently use. The body has been used 2 Sony A7RM3 bodies. It has been changed from Nikon to Canon and from Canon to Sony. The biggest reason for switching to the Sony camera is the Auto Focus(AF) performance. Of course, I don't know if there was a problem with my using method. When using DSLR, there were photos that were in focus out quite often, so I was stressed during the photo review process. but I fell in love with Sony's the speed of focusing quickly and the recognition performance that catches people's faces and eyes. It may differ slightly depending on which lens is mounted, but the difference in focus speed for each lens is not significantly felt. So far, I am using it with great satisfaction without pin stress.
In the early days, mirrorless batteries, especially Sony's second generation, were reluctant to buy them due to their short battery time. I decided to change it after developing about the improved battery and body performance in the 3rd generation, and chose to have an R series with a little more space for cropping after shooting because it's a high-pixel body. I've used two a7r3 cameras, and Sigma 14-24 mm ART, Sony 24-70 mm gm first generation, Sony 35.4 gm, and Sony 85.8 lens total. The camera is in use after being fastened to the Matin Utility Fast Strap 100 (M07290). The lights use Godox v1, ad300pro.
Let's look at the pictures taken with these equipment below. These are modified, and the calibration program used Adobe Lightroom Classic and Photoshop. The order of introduction is arranged in order of focal length.
Sony A7R3(ILCE-7RM3)
The 24-70mm f2.8 GM lense is fixed to the main camera. and Swap the other 3 lenses in the second camera. The a7r3 was launched in 2017, and six years have passed, as of 2023. and the a7 series has been released up to the 5th generation, but there is no problem playing the 3rd generation body yet. Below are all pictures taken with a7r3.
Sigma 14-24mm F2.8 DG DN ART
Most wedding photographs in the Korean wedding halls can be covered with 24-70mm GM lens, but more and more clients want to capture the whole view of the wedding Venue at an ultra-wide angle. It is commonly known that ultra-wide-angle lenses are used for landscapes. However, it is fully utilized in weddings. so I picked 14-24(시그마 1424) art lens due to the limit of 24mm. (DG DN is Sigma's mirrorless full frame mount line).Sony's native 12-24mm F2.8 GM was also an option, but the price that went as crazy as its performance was the biggest reason for concerning the purchase. The Sony lens was more than twice as different (expensive) in terms of cost at the time of purchase, and the ultra-wide angle of up to 12mm was not used much as a rental before purchase, and statistics used in the field showed that 14mm was too wide and between 16 and 20mm was used a lot, so I compromised with Sigma.
Since it is an ultra-wide-angle lens, the number of shots is not large compared to other lenses, but the feedback response of the clients was certainly good. I think I should think about a way to use it more.
Sony 24-70mm F2.8 GM
It is main camera 'built-in' lens for all landscape and portrait situations and conditions(소니 금계륵 1세대). If it is a little wider in the wide angle and a little far angle telephoto, it is a regrettable angle that you want to pull a little more. but let's fill the shortfall with money. (14-24, 85, etc.) The lens I'm using now is big and heavy because it's a first-generation model. I understand that the second generation (GM II) has become more compact and has improved performance(and more expensive), but it is not easy to change because it is still well used as a first generation.
Sony 35mm f1.4 GM
If you have to use in a small venue or get a little closer to client, that is difficult to make a space from the subject, 35GM(삼오금, 35금) show off its outstanding performances. Not only the image quality but also the out-of-focus performance is certain. The ability to separate the people from the background is excellent. In particular, since Clients are not professional models, I should be a guide often necessary to pose close to clients or shoot while talking, but even if you close the distance to the subject, you can mix the characters and the background appropriately, so it is highly useful. In addition to landscape photographs, it was highly utilized when taking pictures of the upper body of the character, and when taking close pictures of the subject.
Sony 85mm F1.8
85.8 lens is fundamental to portrait shooting. I wonder if I need more words, but it's small, light and fast. It's shorter than 35gm and a little chubby on the side. I might change my mind if I try 85mm f1.4gm, but so far, there are not many incentives to change to 85gm.(As expected, the cost issue)
To Sum up
I introduced the equipment I use to shoot the wedding ceremony. Using Sony equipment motivates me to earn more for better equipment and better pictures. Too good performance and too expensive price. High filming speed and Satisfying results. Sony Body's compatibility with Third Party (Sigma) also looks good.
Let's look forward to Sony's upcoming equipment and my photos.
